Charles (Chuck) Samley, 74, of East Petersburg died Friday, March 21 in Venice, FL at his winter home. He was the husband of Nancy Jane (Gross) Samley to whom he was married for 52 years.
Born in Bethlehem, PA on May 31, 1933, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Mary I. (Roseman) Samley. He worked as an independent contractor for High Associates, being responsible for both the sales and leasing of commercial property as well as general brokerage accounts. He began his career in real estate in 1971 as the General Manager of the Park City Center. He also served as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps.
Mr. Samley was a 1950 graduate of Bethlehem High School and a 1954 graduate of Moravian College with a B.S. in Business Administration.
He was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, the St. John Neumann Council 12532 Knights of Columbus; American Legion Post 135, Perryville, MD; Military Officers Association of America; Greater Lancaster Board of Realtors and the International Council of Shopping Centers. Mr. Samley was a staff officer and instructor for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 14-07, Lititz, PA, and previously a flotilla commander. He also obtained numerous awards with the Auxiliary including the Auxiliarist of the Year Award.
In addition, Mr. Samley was a Past President of the Kiwanis Club of North Lancaster, a member of the Commercial and Industrial Real Estate Council of Lancaster County which he served as Past President, a State Instructor for the PA Fish and Boat Commission, and a member of numerous other civic organizations.
Mr. Samley had numerous hobbies and especially loved boating on the Chesapeake Bay with his wife, family, and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Debra Lee, wife of Stan Latta, Port Matilda, PA; Vicki Lynn, wife of Blake Kneeland, Lansdale; Christopher, Charlottesville, VA; and Matthew, Lancaster; and seven grandchildren; and a sister, Rosalie S. Lester, wife of Joseph W., of Avon, CT, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Neumann Roman Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd., Lancaster. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA on Monday at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, and also at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 14-07, c/o Victor Sliko, Finance Officer, 58 Green Acre Road, Lititz, PA 17543.
