Charles A. "Red" Duing, 84, formerly of 22 Homestead Dr., passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Homestead Village, where he had been residing.
He was the husband of the late Sarah Kanish Duing, who passed away this past May 6 th . Born in Lancaster, Red was the son of the late Walter E. and Dora S. Lausch Duing. Red had worked for the Raub Supply Co. of Lancaster for over 30 years, retiring as the sale manager of the electrical department. An active member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church throughout his life, he served as head usher for many years. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving as a corporal in the North African and Italian campaigns with the 23 rd Statistical Control Unit. Red was an avid Yankees baseball fan and Notre Dame football fan, and he enjoyed having his daily coffee breaks with his friends.
Red is survived by his sister, Mary D. married to L. Fred Husson of Lancaster, and his nieces and nephews: Donna Maser, Kay Baker, Parke Duing Jr., Sue Newswanger, Sally Schoffstall, Steven Husson, and Sylvia Lashley. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia A. Duing and his brother, Parke Duing, Sr.
Friends will be received on Monday from 930-1030AM at St Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Rd. Lancaster, PA 17601, with the funeral service to follow at 1030AM, the Revs. Craig A. Ross, Richard E. Geib, and Jacquelyn H. Roderick officiating. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Red's memory to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Dr., Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or to the St. Peter's Lutheran Church Foundation at the church address above.
