IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles Anthony
Mayo
April 10, 2018
Charles Anthony Mayo, age 78, of Lancaster, PA passed away at his home on Tuesday April 10, 2018. He was the husband of Sandra A. (Bixler) Mayo also of Lancaster who survives him. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara (Mayo) Ruth, wife of Mel Ruth of Lancaster. Charles is the father of four boys, of whom he has always been extremely proud, a sentiment he reaffirmed frequently over the years: Anthony (Tony) Mayo, the eldest, married to Lisa of Lancaster, Christopher Mayo, husband of Wendy, also of Lancaster, Troy Mayo and his husband Luis, of Fort Washington, Maryland, and Dean Mayo, married to Michele of Floral Park, NY. He is survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Charles Mayo served in the United States Marine Corps after graduating from Lancaster Catholic High School in 1957. Following his service to his country, he became a business owner and entrepreneur. He was largely in commercial real estate, most recently owning, operating, and managing Ridgeview Executive Park for more than thirty years. While his stellar success in business was a source of income for him and his wife, and a source of pride for his entire family, it was not what was most important to him. Everyone who knew him knew that his family was the most cherished thing in his life. His home contains no less than two-hundred displayed pictures and mementos of his wife, children, sister, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other friends and relatives that were all part of his family; and was always the gathering place for Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve meals with his extended family. Charles was very active in The Knights of Columbus #12532 and St. John Neumann Catholic Church. He served two terms as Grand Knight and was the founder and cornerstone of St. John Neumann's annual Pig Roast. He was selected as Knight of the Year 2007-2008. Both he and his wife Sandy spent countless hours at the church celebrating their faith through their service. He was a leader in organizing and running the Lancaster Catholic High School Carnival in its hay day in the 1980s and 1990s. He also served on the School Board of Lancaster Catholic High School. Whether you knew him as Anthony, Chuck, Charlie, Uncle Charlie, Papa Chuck, or dad, he was the man who always wanted everyone to linger at the dinner table for extended family conversations, or who endured the numerous humorous stories shared by his sons and grandchildren of the times working or playing with him. He was often the punch line in these anecdotes, but he never seemed to mind so long as everyone was happy. He was a gifted mentor and businessman, but most importantly, he was the consummate human being who willingly gave what he had to help others and loved his family as much as any man can. Friends will be received on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 6-8PM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Friends may call again on Friday, April 13, 2017 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd., Lancaster, PA from 12:30-1:30PM, with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1:30PM. Interment will be private in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, 1250 Fourth St., Santa Monica, CA 90401 or St. John Neumann Roman Catholic Church at the above address.
