Charles J. Long, 86, of Lancaster passed away Monday, June 9, 2008 at his residence. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Mary (Goldbach) Long. He was the husband of Rose Mary Long with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage this past October.
Charles operated Long's Horseradish stand in Lancaster's Central Market House for over 50 years as well as Meadowbrook in Leola. He was famous for his horseradish and fresh grated coconut. Charles served his country in WWII in the Air Force. Charles was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus 3 rd Degree, former Chancellor of the PA Catholic Beneficial League, TPA, AM VETS charter member, 8 th Ward Club, Hubley Social Club, and the Akron Relief Assoc.
Surviving in addition to his wife Rose Mary, are 4 children; Michael J. Long husband of Cindy of Lancaster; Jeffrey C. Long husband of Susan of Lancaster; Theresa L. McKimm wife of Raymond of Millersville; and Roselyn M. Ayers wife of Larry of Lancaster. A sister, Mary Bolton wife of Wilmer of Holtwood, now residing at St. Anne's Home in Columbia; 7 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
Charles is preceded in death by a brother, Gerald V. Long and a sister; Joan A. Long.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 12, 2008 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church 501 E Orange St Lancaster, PA 17602 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Daniel Mitzel as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Friends will be received Wednesday at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home 414 E. King St. Lancaster 17602 from 7-9 p.m.
