Charles Edward Doolittle, of Millersville, went home to be with the Lord on April 1, 2016 surrounded by his family. Born March 14, 1936 in Franklin, Pa., he was son of the late Frederick Charles Doolittle & the late Mary Irene Kirby Doolittle.

Charles grew up at the Bethesda Lutheran Children's Home in Meadville, PA. As a teenager he had the opportunity to work on the orphanage dairy farm where he became part of the Irad Wensel family. Those special relationships lasted throughout his lifetime.

After high school he joined the Army Security Agency serving in Korea and the Philippines from 1954-1957 as a Morse code interceptor. He graduated from Penn State in 1961 with a B.S. degree in vocational agriculture and science. He received a M.A. from Appalachian State University in biology. Chuck taught at a number of private and public schools, and the last 25 years of his career were spent teaching biology and environmental science at Manheim Township High School.

After retirement he volunteered as a van driver for the VA, and taught science to home schoolers.

Chuck was a member of the former Abbyville Road Christian Church where he was Deacon of Benevolence, taught Sunday School and served on the Missions' team. He was currently attending Faith Bible Fellowship Church.

An avid fisherman, boater, camper and gardener, he also enjoyed music, poetry, reading, traveling, antiquing, woodworking, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

A loving husband and father, Chuck will be greatly missed by his wife of 37 years, Sharon L; his 3 sons, David A. (Martha), Dr. Daniel S. (Pam), & Douglas I. (Sarah) Doolittle; his daughter, Cynthia A. Witmer (Mark); 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Chuck is also survived by his former wife Ruth Herr Powers.
