Charles Arthur Bernheisel, 92, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024 at his home in Millersville PA. He was born February 27, 1931, in Schuylkill Haven PA to Eldon Luther Bernheisel and Anna Zulick.
He graduated from Schuylkill Haven High School in 1949 where he was class president, played football and played tuba in the concert band.
In December 1950 he enlisted in the Air Force and was trained as a cable installer in Korea in 1952. After his discharge in 1954 he studied engineering at Penn State and graduated as an Electrical Engineer in 1958. Also from Penn State in 1975, he earned a Master of Engineering degree in Engineering Science.
His first job as an Electrical Engineer was at the New York and Pennsylvania Co's paper mill in Johnsonburg (Elk Co,) PA. In 1965 he was hired by Armstrong Cork Co. (now Armstrong World Industries). He worked on various projects there until he retired in 1997.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where he was on the church council, chair of the Evangelism committee, and a Stephen Minister.
He spent some years helping the Cub Scouts as Committee Chair and Cubmaster. He was also on the Boy Scout Committee.
In 1959 he married his wife, Marcia Cassler Bernheisel. They spent 64 years together. Two sons survive, James Arthur Bernheisel, MD (Patricia) and Stephen Arthur Bernheisel (Kate, DNP) and two grandchildren Chelsea Renea Bernheisel and Sean Arthur Bernheisel. Also surviving are half siblings, Anna Hoy Schafer, and Douglas Hoy (Beverly).
A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM, Friday, January 19, 2024, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 441 N. George St., Millersville, PA 17551. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home from 10AM to 11AM.
The family wants to thank the staff of Hospice & Community Care and the caregivers of the agency, Home Instead, for their help and support during this difficult time.
