Catherine Stringas, of the Mennonite Home, formerly of Woodcrest Villa, Lancaster, fell asleep in the Lord on Sunday, June 30, 2014. Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Victoria (Mookas) Bailos.

In her early years Catherine was trained and worked as an x-ray technician and medical assistant. Her profession later led her to Philadelphia where she held an administrative assistant position for fourteen years. In Philadelphia, Catherine was an active member of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, where she sang in the choir. After retiring she volunteered for many years at the University of Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson Hospitals. With all of life's work Catherine always found time to volunteer and serve in any capacity that was needed. She believed that her life should be purposeful and in the service of others.

Catherine traveled extensively, visiting Greece, the homeland of her parents, and her brother in Australia. She moved to Lancaster in 2002 and was a member of Annunciation Orthodox Church. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, George Stringas. She is survived by one son, Thomas Stringas, husband of Helene Pavlatos Stringas, of Lititz, and one granddaughter, Cynthia, wife Kenneth Jones of New Holland.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Service at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603, on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 10:30am with The Rev. Alexander Veronis officiating. Viewings will be held at the church on Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00pm, with a Trisagon Service at 7:00pm, and again on Monday morning from 9:30-10:30am, prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park.
