IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Catherine Griggs
Mccarroll
June 11, 2024
Catherine Griggs McCarroll passed away on June 11th, 2024, at the age of 76, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 11th, 1947, Cathy or "Kate", brought much love to those around her. Her too-short journey touched the lives of many, especially those of her children and grandchildren. She leaves behind many cherished memories and a legacy of quiet strength and resilience.
Catherine was born in New Brunswick, NJ to parents Stanley and Mary (Welsh) Griggs. She was raised with her older sister, Eileen Griggs (McGillan) in Cranbury, NJ and graduated in 1965 from Hightstown High school. Soon after graduation, Cathy began working for RCA, where she met and fell in love with John "Jack" McCarroll, from Philadelphia. They wed in 1970 and, after giving birth to sons Kevin and Mark, the family moved to Lancaster, PA.
Cathy worked at Lancaster IU and loved helping students improve in their studies. When Cathy wasn't working, participating in Women's Club activities as president, or volunteering, she could be found in her garden, tending to the plants and flowers with great care and passion. After being blessed with grandchildren, Cathy freely shared her love of gardening with them, planting the seeds of appreciation for God's beauty in the next generation. She was also an active member of both the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Cranbury Historical Society, highlighting her love of American history.
She is survived by her husband Jack McCarroll, their sons retired Lt. Col. Mark McCarroll husband of Sarah, and Kevin McCarroll husband of Angela; her grandchildren John Patrick McCarroll and Madelyn McCarroll. She will also be deeply missed by her sister Eileen McGillan and her nieces Kelly McGillan and Kerry McGillan, along with numerous family members and dear friends. Not a day went by where Cathy didn't talk about how much her children, grandchildren and family meant to her. Her family was arguably her most important achievement in life.
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 8, 2024, at 10am at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz PA. Family invites guests to join them in remembering Cathy's life and achievements. Cathy will be laid to rest at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Association.
