Catherine E. Martin, 96, formerly of 649 Hamilton St, Lancaster, died Thursday morning at Brethren Village, where she had been residing.

She was the wife of the late David E. Martin, who died in 2005. Born in Strasburg, Catherine was the daughter of the late Roy K. and Harriet R. Graham Herr.

She had been a homemaker, and was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, where she was an original member of the Creative Tuesday Sewing Group and a member of the United Methodist Women.

Catherine enjoyed sewing, cooking, quilting, and refinishing furniture. Her family was of great importance to her and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her two children: Donald E.  married to Elizabeth S. Martin of Slatington, PA and Barbara L. Martin of Bethel Park, PA; her grandchildren: Douglas E. married to Mary Katharine Martin and Amy L. Martin; her brother Roy J. Herr of Lancaster and her sister, Dorothy L.  married to C. Richard Sheaffer of Strasburg. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Herr.

Friends will be received on Monday, June 9th from 10-11AM at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 20 E. Clay St., Lancaster, PA 17602, with the funeral service to follow at 11AM, the Rev. Robert A. Bailey officiating. Interment in Strasburg Mennonite Cemetery at 1:30PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Catherine's memory to Otterbein United Methodist Church, or to the Water Street Rescue Mission, Box 7267, Lancaster, PA 17604.
