Carolyn Whitmer Swavely, 76, of East Lampeter died on October 18, 2024. Carolyn was being visited and comforted by family members at Ephrata Manor at the time of her passing.
Born in New Holland, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Lavern and Louise Whitmer. She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Bob Swavely, in 2022. She is survived by her brother John (Joan) Whitmer and her sister Helen Whitmer, as well as her son Charles "Chuck" F. Braught III, his children Charles F. Braught IV and Grace Braught and her son John (Hannah) Braught.
Carolyn graduated from Manheim Township High School in 1966 and had a variety of jobs throughout her life. She remembered most fondly her career as a switchboard operator for the Medical Bureau in Lancaster and for Bell Telephone. In her spare time, Carolyn enjoyed reading and watching TV, holding a special fondness for Judge Judy.
Carolyn's greatest pride and joy was her grandchildren, Charles and Grace, whom she cared for dutifully and joyfully. Carolyn loved her children and her grandchildren and was extremely proud of them.
Carolyn was a unique character with a sharp wit and a taste for off-color humor. Everyone who encountered Carolyn will recall her mischievous grin. Though a homebody, Carolyn had a diverse and varied group of friends and was much loved.
Private inurnment with her husband Bob will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
