IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carmen Maria
Nieves
August 12, 2025
Through many tears, the family of Carmen Maria Nieves announce her passing on August 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Isabela, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of Pedro and Basilisa Nieves.
Carmen was a devoted mother and grandmother, fiercely family-oriented, and known for her sharp wit and infectious laughter. She took great joy in her craft as a seamstress, often spending hours creating matching outfits for her daughters and granddaughters, perfectly tailored to include their cherished dolls. Her skill extended to designing stunning wedding and bridesmaids' dresses for her loved ones, making every family celebration even more special.
The titles of "best cook" and "family favorite" came naturally to Carmen, whose treasured recipes—especially her homemade pasteles and papas rellenas—were a highlight at any gathering. Her culinary creations were a labor of love, bringing family together around the dinner table, where stories were shared, and laughter filled the air.
A true spirit, Carmen lived unapologetically and embraced life's adventures with open arms, including her fondness for the occasional gamble, which brought her much joy and plenty of memorable moments. She embraced life with a sassy spirit and a feisty attitude that left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Her memories will forever be cherished by her family including her children, Sylvia Monserrate of Puerto Rico, Kathy Irizarry of Hummelstown, and Felix Fernandez of Lancaster, grandchildren, Ibis Chupany, Adeliz Rodriguez, Brenda Monserrate, Michael Irizarry, Abrianna Irizarry, and Jamil Fernandez, as well as her siblings, Jose Nieves, Gladys Monserrate, Aida M. Colon, Wilfredo Nieves, Monserrate Nieves, and Marta Barrera. She was preceded in passing by her parents, a son, Pedro Monserrate, and a brother, Pedro S. Nieves.
The family will greet guests at a viewing on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St. Millersville, PA 17551, from 11 AM – 1 PM, with a service following. Interment will take place at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.
