IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Caleb Benjamin
Walker
December 3, 2014
Caleb Benjamin Walker, 23, of Lancaster City, began his journey up to heaven on Wednesday, December 3, after a long fight with brain cancer. He was born in Lancaster and was the son of Rev. Keith A., pastor at LCBC, and Lynn (Killgore) Walker.
Before anything else, Caleb was wildly passionate and unshakably loving. He was also stubborn to an obscene extent. Those traits led to him forming and running a foundation this past year called "A Week Away" which gives families experiencing terminal illness a respite so they may continue to fight.
A Week Away will most likely be Caleb's enduring legacy because of its amazing initiative and giving spirit. But more than that, he himself was the pinnacle of what men should strive to be: outstandingly determined, unquestionably loyal, unimaginably kind, and the fiercest friend anyone could wish for. For those who didn't know him, Caleb grew from a little boy who would throw football in the backyard and pretend to play for the Dallas Cowboys, to a man who transformed the lives of those he touched. Unfortunately, he still loved the Cowboys.
Caleb never remained still a day in his life. Wrestling, football, triathalon training, instructing yoga, snowboarding, and bike polo were all ways he remained active … and injured. Caleb never allowed cancer to slow him down for a second, even after he was diagnosed his senior year of high school at Lampeter-Strasburg. He graduated, proceeded onto further schooling and eventually entered the business world, all while quietly dealing with his own battle.
Caleb was recently chosen to receive the Michael's Way Hero Award at the 2014 Burt Bell Memorial Award Dinner on December 16, 2014 in Philadelphia. This event is sponsored by the Michael's Way Foundation and the Eagles' Fly For Leukemia and the award is given to a childhood cancer survivor who goes on to do extraordinary things. And Caleb certainly did extraordinary things.
Surviving in addition to his parents are three brothers; Joshua Walker, husband of Carrene, VA, Joel Walker, husband of Holly, of Lancaster City, Seth Walker, of Lancaster, and three nephews, Cole, Beau, and Huckleberry Walker.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Caleb's Foundation "A Week Away", aweekaway.org, 941 Wheatland Ave. Suite 201 Lancaster, PA 17603.
Caleb Benjamin Walker's 24th Birthday Memorial Celebration will be held on Monday evening, December 8th, 2014 at 7PM at LCBC Church Manheim, 2392 Mount Joy Rd., Manheim, PA 17545. Visitations with the family will be on Sunday, December 7th, at LCBC from 4-7PM and again on Monday from 5-6:45PM.
