Obituary

Brian D. Steffy, 55, died May 26, 2008 at the Essa Flory Hospice Center. He was the son of Dr. Harry and Thelma Steffy of Lititz, was the husband of Brigitte Haagen Steffy and the father of Ian Steffy.

Brian graduated from Ephrata High School, attended Randolph Macon College and Duke University. He received a BA and MS from the State University of New York and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. His career included teaching at the University of Kentucky and University of Minnesota. Most recently he taught 20 years at Franklin and Marshall College. His area of expertise was organizational psychology. He was a highly regarded teacher, colleague, and scholar.

He served four years in the Air Force, working as a psychiatric social worker. For the past several years, he was the Minority Inspector for Manheim Township Voting District #21.

Brian had many interest and hobbies. He was a dedicated athlete, competing in Ironman Triathlons in Canada, France, and various states. He also participated in adventure races, mountain climbing, sailing and kayaking. His musical interests included playing the guitar, piano, drums, and cello.

He is survived by two sisters, Rosalind Krafft, wife of Gary Krafft and Nancy Balmer, wife of Jay Balmer, both of Ephrata, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Franklin & Marshall College, Office of College Advancement, Box 3003, Lancaster, PA 17604, for the Center for Business, Government, and Public Policy. Arrangements by the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Chapel, Lititz, PA 560-5100.
