IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Brian S.
Detwiler
October 27, 2023
Brian S. Detwiler, age 51, passed away at his home in Mountville on October 27, 2023. Born in Mountville, Brian was the son of Marshall L. Detwiler and the late Linda O'Neil Detwiler. After graduating from Hempfield High School, Brian ultimately went on to earn his bachelor's degree in psychology from Penn State University. Brian was very proud of this accomplishment, which took hard work and determination, as did many things in Brian's life.
Once he graduated from Penn State, Brian worked at Penn State University hospital as a counselor to others with his disability. He also spoke at area high schools to educate students about accidents that can change your life in the blink of an eye, as most never think it could happen to them. Brian had a passion for wanting to help others.
Brian's life was a shining example of courage, humor, and resilience as he served as an inspiration to many. His journey was marked by extraordinary strength, beginning at age eighteen after surviving a life-altering accident that left him paralyzed. He faced challenges with unwavering determination and a fierce will to live life to the fullest. He transformed adversity into an opportunity to inspire others. Brian was also known for his infectious humor and vivacious personality. He was the life of the party, and his witty remarks could light up a room.
Brian had a passion for sports. He was a pitcher for the Hempfield High School varsity baseball team and played football for many years, including at the high school level. Brian was a lifelong fan of his beloved Dallas Cowboys from a very early age. Once again, that determination showed as he never wavered on who his favorite NFL team was despite living his whole life in Eagle's country. Brian also rooted for the Phillies and his alma mater, Penn State's, football team.
In addition to his father, Marshall, Brian is survived by his bonus mom, MaryAnn Detwiler of Lititz; his grandmother, Elizabeth Detwiler of Lititz; his siblings: Marshall L. Detwiler, Jr. "Lee" of Pittsburgh, Jennifer N Baker, wife of Michael, of Pittsburgh, and Alison C, Sharkey, wife of Séan of Mays Landing, NJ; nieces, Alyssa, Olivia, Charlotte, Amelia, and nephew, Connor. He also is survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In addition to his mother, Brian is proceeded in death by his grandparents: Marshall M. Detwiler, Jr. and Paul and Dolores Denuel and an uncle, Richard Detwiler.
The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. 17543 from 2pm to 3pm with a service to remember Brian's life beginning at 3pm. Please wear your favorite team apparel, or if you wish and we encourage, Dallas Cowboys apparel or colors.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Brian's memory can be made to United Disability Services.
