Obituary

Betty Jane Wiersma, 88 born October 6, 1927 passed away after a short illness on May 24, 2016 at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy, PA surrounded by her loving family.

She was a caring, devoted and generous person to many friends and family alike. She enjoyed bowling for over 60 years and most recently bowling duck pins at the Lancaster Elks. She regularly played pinochle with a group called the Happy Six. For over 20 years, she was a dedicated and committed volunteer in the gift shop at the Ephrata Manor interacting with their numerous residents. She had been a very active member of St. Andrews United Church of Christ and later in life she was a regular attendee at Bethany United Church of Christ and Zion's Reformed United Church of Christ, all in Ephrata.

She dedicated over 40 years to serving the weekly Men's Wash Day Club at the Lancaster Hamilton Club. In addition Betty was a selfless volunteer to her many friends throughout her life. She also served the community by donating greater than 50 gallons of blood to the Lancaster blood bank during her lifetime. Betty will be dearly missed by those who knew her best. Her forthright manner and honest integrity were the hallmark of a life lived well.

She is survived by her husband William Wiersma of 35 years. In addition to her husband she is survived by her son David J. Miller husband of Cynthia C. Miller of Wilmington, Delaware, granddaughter Chelsea Miller of Mount Joy, her daughter Deborah J. Myers wife of James Myers of Mooresville, North Carolina, grandsons Justin Myers and Nathan Myers husband of Theresa Myers all of Raleigh, North Carolina and great-grandson Alex Myers. Also five brothers Jim husband of Jean Miller, Rick husband of Sandra "Sam" Miller, Vaughn Miller companion of Vicki Lowe, Sidney Miller, Garry Miller all of Manheim, 3 sisters: Nancy wife of Bill Shenberger, Rosalie Miller, Carol wife of Nevin Garner all of Manheim. Preceding her in death are four brothers: Jere, Jack, Terry Lee, and Dougie Miller.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Betty's Memorial Service on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 7:00PM from the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. A visitation will be held from 6:00PM until the time of her Service at the funeral home. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Flowers are welcome.
