Beryl Catherine Frey, a devoted mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the age of 86. Formerly of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, she had been residing at Arbor Terrace in Morris Plains, New Jersey, since November of 2025.
Beryl was born on December 6, 1939 in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late William W. Kelly and Agnes Kelly, née Eltringham. Her step mother was Ella Kelly née Eltringham. She was raised in a close-knit community that instilled in her a lifelong sense of resilience and deep devotion to family and friends.
After graduating from Mount Carmel Senior High School, she went on to earn her degree in education from the Mansfield State College. Beryl dedicated many years of her life to teaching home economics at Hempfield and McCaskey High Schools, among others, on a full time as well as a substitute basis. She also shared her passion for sewing as a private instructor at the Nimble Thimble in Lancaster City, where she inspired others with her creativity and skill.
She was the beloved wife of the late Harry R. Frey, who passed away in 2013. Together, they built a loving home and raised their two sons with care and unwavering support. In her later years, Beryl found her greatest joy in her role as a grandmother to her three grandchildren, who were the light of her life. They will forever cherish her warm hugs, homemade treats, thoughtful gifts, and the stories she so loved to share. Her family will also always treasure Beryl’s special holiday traditions, including Christmas crackers, Easter egg bucking contests, and the Christmas ornaments she lovingly handpicked for each family member every year since her first grandchild was born in 2000.
Beryl was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and treasured the friendships she formed through the Coterie Club of Lancaster County. She was an avid reader of mystery novels, especially those by Agatha Christie, and enjoyed sewing, antiquing, cards and crafting—passions she pursued with enthusiasm throughout her life.
Beryl is survived by her sons, Brian S. (married to Patricia Frey) of Morristown, NJ, and Randolph W. (married to Viviane Frey) of Winter Gardens, FL, as well as her 3 beloved grandchildren: Emily, Evan, and Carolina Frey and her cousin Jean Anne Harter of Lancaster.
Friends will be received on Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 10-11AM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 North George Street, Millersville, PA, with the Memorial Service to follow at 11AM. Interment will occur in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to any of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or the St. Jude Research Hospital for Children.
