Bernard N. "Bernie" Santaniello, 85, of Millersville passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at LGH surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Bernard V. Santaniello and Anna (Rampulla) Santaniello. He was the loving husband of Helen L. (Currie) Santaniello with whom he shared over 63 years of marriage.
He was a 1958 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School, and later received his Bachelor's degree in Education from Millersville University and his Master's degree from Temple University. Bernie was a teacher in the School District of Lancaster for 35 years before retiring in 1997. He coached both track and football for McCaskey, and football for Millersville and F&M. Bernie enjoyed spending winters on the Gulf Coast of Florida, fishing, bartending at the Fulton Bar and running the snack bar at Brookside Swim Club.
In addition to his wife, Helen "Penny" he is survived by three of his children: Theresa "Terry" Kreider wife of William, Dolores "Lori" Sbarra and Nicole Arraiano, wife of Joe. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Alyssa (Jeremy) & Austin Sbarra, Melissa & Elizabeth Kreider, Olivia Arraiano; sister, Michaelina Nissley, wife of Philip; brother, James T. Santaniello, husband of Lovie; daughter in law, Gina Procaccio, and his foreign exchange son, Sergej Kac, husband of Stephanie and their children, Andrew & Maya. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephan Santaniello.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday, April 10, 2026, at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA 17603. Interment will be private in St. Joseph's New Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends will be received from 10 - 11 AM at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bernie's memory may be made to The Steve Santaniello Scholarship at the Lancaster Education Foundation Lancastereducation.com/scholarship - Please indicate "Santaniello Scholarship "in the comments section or mail a check to Lancaster Education Foundation, 445 N. Reservoir Ave, Lancaster PA 17602 - Please indicate "Santaniello Scholarship" on the memo the line.
