Barbara Cavanaugh Sullivan, age 90, died peacefully on October 9, 2023, at Lakeside, Willow Valley Communities. Barbara was born in Providence, Rl, the oldest child of Joseph and Victoria Cavanaugh. She graduated in 1954 from the University of Rhode Island where she met her husband, Bob, of 66 years.
A lifelong Catholic, she and Bob served as Eucharistic ministers at St. Mary's Church. Barbara started a mission for the homeless in the fall of 2009. She supplied packages of needed household paper products at the St. Mary's Community Meal. She was fondly known as "The Toilet Paper Lady"! She served 19 years as Executive Director of the S. June Smith Center; supporting children with developmental disabilities. She was an active member of many local charities touching the lives of adults and children in Lancaster County. Barbara made friends wherever she went.
Barbara and Bob shared their love with their five children: Linda (wife of Calvin Simpson) Erie, PA; Ann (wife of Dave Biron) Canton, GA; Kathy (wife of Daryl Keener) Lancaster, PA; Bobbi Sullivan, Savannah, TX; and Timothy (husband of Hey Suk) South Korea. Barbara is also survived by her brother, Joseph (husband of Shirley); 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert H Sullivan, her parents, and her sister, Patricia Greer.
Barbara's family would like to thank all the wonderful staff on the first floor of Lakeside where she resided for the last 5 years. They truly became part of our family.
A visitation and funeral mass will be held for Barbara and Bob, who passed on March 30, 2020, on November 11, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 119 S Prince St, Lancaster, PA 17603, at 11am. Family invites guests to a visitation one hour prior at 10am. Barbara and Bob will put to rest together at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery at the conclusion of service. In lieu of flowers, to honor our parents please support a charity that helps those in need.
