IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Jean
Hubbard Horwedel
April 23, 2014
Barbara Jean Hubbard Horwedel, 82, died on April 23rd after a lengthy battle with dementia. She was surrounded by family and passed away peacefully in her room at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim, PA., where she had resided for the past three years. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Guy Hubbard and Gladys Reimer Hubbard, and survived by her sister, Nancy, who lives in Pacific Grove, CA.
Barbara graduated from John Marshall High School in Cleveland, OH and attended Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, OH, where she met her husband of 57 years, Paul, who preceded her in death by six years. They had three children: Mark Horwedel of Willow Grove, PA; Mary Forster of Lancaster, PA; and Karen Smith of Arlington, VA. In addition, there are nine grandchildren: Lori Horwedel, Anne Dampf, and Tim Horwedel; Wes Forster, Christina Forster, Keith Forster, and Todd Forster; and Allison Smith and Brian Smith.
Varied hobbies and interests kept Barbara busy throughout her life. She was an avid animal lover who adored and raised many wire-haired fox terrier dogs and two horses who kept her busy riding throughout her retirement. A vibrant and passionate woman, Barbara's life was infused with music on the piano and as a vocalist. Her career was spent working with severely handicapped people and even offering them the chance to ride horses through The Reins of Life. She finished out her teaching career with the Tredyffrin Easttown School in Chester County.
