IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arthur Lengacher,
Jr.
March 30, 2017
Arthur Lengacher, Jr., 68, of Gordonville, PA, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017, at home after a lengthy illness to be with his Lord. He was the husband of K. Anne (Weaver) Lengacher to whom he was married for 33 years. Born in Biel, Switzerland, he was the beloved son of the late Arthur and Martha (Fuchs) Lengacher.
At the age of 4 years, Art emigrated from Solothurn, Switzerland with his mother and 2 sisters to Brewster, Ohio to join his father, who had come to America 6 months earlier to seek a better life for his family. At the age of 6, he moved to Kinzers, PA, and graduated from Pequea Valley High School in 1966. Art received a B.A. Degree in Economics from Millersville University in 1970 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving 4 years. While in the Navy he completed his Masters Degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. He then came back to Kinzers and worked at Lengacher's Swiss Cheese House alongside his father and mother, eventually purchasing the business with his wife Anne. In 1996 he took a position with Land O' Lakes as a milk inspector. Art loved visiting the dairy farms in the area, getting to know not only the owners, but also their cows, for which he had a soft spot in his heart.
Art was the epitome of a gentleman, possessing a kind and gentle soul who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a good and loyal friend to many and a loving spouse, son, brother and uncle. He was a light in this world who always put others first. Art possessed a sharp and funny wit that captivated all he met. He was passionate about sports and athletics and an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles.
Art was fortunate enough to meet the love of his life, K. Anne Weaver and shared a wonderful life with her. Together, they enjoyed golfing, tennis, bowling, snow skiing and going to their cottage in northern Pennsylvania. Through the years they were loving parents to their "fur Kids", most recently Bandit and Mookie.
He was an active member of the Salisbury Lions Club for years. Art served as their president and received the honor of Lion of the Year in 2012, and the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow Award. He contributed countless hours of volunteerism to the community.
Art was a member of Bellevue Presbyterian Church for 62 years. He was an expert down hill skier and was a member of the Lancaster Ski Club. He wielded a mean tennis racquet and was inducted into the Pequea Valley Athletic Hall of Fame for his tennis prowess during and after high school, playing varsity tennis for Millersville University.
Surviving in addition to Art's wife are sisters and brothers in law Edith Duckworth, wife of Dave, East Petersburg, PA; Astrid Ross, wife of Dr. Michael, Denver, CO; Heidi Cohen, wife of Dr. Michael, Lititz, PA; John H. Weaver, Strasburg, PA; C. Michael Weaver, Esq., Strasburg, PA; David G. Weaver, husband of Barb, Lampeter, PA; Kathryn Weaver, mother-in-law, Strasburg, PA; nieces and nephews Nancy Duckworth Fisher, Brian Wenger, Daniel Wenger, Heidi Duckworth, David Cohen, Esq., Madison Cohen South, Timothy Weaver, Daniel Weaver, Carl Weaver.
The family would like to express the deepest gratitude to Kathy Steinmetz, RN, our friend, medical guide and "blessed angel". A special thank you to all the family members who stayed with and provided support to Art and Anne along with the caring staff of Hospice and Community Care.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 3:00 PM at the Bellevue Presbyterian Church located at 810 Newport Avenue, Gap, PA, with the Rev. J.T. Halderman officiating. The family will meet and greet visitors in the fellowship hall after the service has concluded. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Arthur's memory may be made to Lancaster Farmland Preservation Trust.
