Arthur R. Hensel, 77, of East Petersburg, died Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Arthur L. and Edna Walters Hensel. Art was married to Nettie A. Spence Hensel for 57 years.
Art served in the US Navy onboard the USS Cone during the Korean War. He then worked as a tool and die maker for the New Standard Corporation for 26 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of El Redentor and St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Lancaster.
He was a member and Past Master of Andrew Hershey Lodge #764 F. & A.M. and now Lancaster Lodge #43 F. & A.M. Art also belonged to the Lancaster County Shrine Club and its Oriental Band, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Zembo Shrine of Harrisburg, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Lancaster and Harrisburg, Lancaster Commandery No. 13 Knights Templar, Royal Arch Chapter No, 43 and Goodwin Council No. 19. Up until, recently Art was involved in taking children to the Shriner's Hospital in Philadelphia. He also belonged to American Legion Post #34, Lancaster. A lifetime member of Elstonville Sportsmen's Association, Art loved fishing and hunting at his hometown of Weatherly in Carbon County
In addition to his wife Nettie, Art is survived by a daughter Cathy Hensel, Lancaster and two sisters, Myra Ryalls, Chesapeake, VA, and Rosemary Stritz, Palmertown, PA. He was preceded in death by a brother Wayne Hensel and father and mother-in-law Donald and Mildred Spence.
Art's family thanks the Doctors and staff of Lancaster General Hospital for the loving care they provided him.
The Funeral will be held 11 AM Saturday, September 1, 2012, with The Rev. Arthur L. Rettew officiating, at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Masonic Services will be performed by the Lancaster Lodge #43 F. & A.M. immediately before the funeral. Viewings will take place at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8 PM and Saturday 10-11 AM. Interment in Riverview Burial Park. Please omit flowers. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
