Art Umstead, age 94, passed away peacefully at Garden Spot Village, on January 25, 2026.
Born on December 1, 1931, in Royersford, Pennsylvania, Art was the son of Kathryn Umstead. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Gerri Umstead.
Art served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He earned his teaching degree from Millersville State Teachers College. Art taught Industrial Arts in the Coatesville Area School District from 1959 until his retirement in 1990, shaping generations of students through hands-on learning, craftsmanship, and discipline.
A master carpenter and skilled craftsman, Art had a special passion for woodworking. He shared his talents as a volunteer with Good Works, a nonprofit organization that transforms lives by repairing homes for low-income families. Art was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies.
Art is survived by his son Todd, husband of Dawn (Thatcher) Umstead, daughter Lisa Muckelbauer, and grandchildren Ethan, and Daniel and Olivia.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Works, Inc. or the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund. Art will be remembered for his service, generosity, craftsmanship, and devotion to family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
