Arcangelo "Angelo" Mattiace, 87, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of Charity A. Minnick Mattiace, to whom he was married since 2013. He was formerly married to the late Carolyn R. Schultz Mattiace, who passed away in 2009. Born in Torito, Bari, Italy, he was the son of the late Pietro and Maria L. Ferranti Mattiace. He came to the United States in 1955 from Bari, Italy, lived in New York, and then moved to Lancaster in 1971.
Angelo had worked for the former Witmer and McCoy Construction Co. of Mount Joy. He also mowed lawns, owned a painting contractor business, and worked at the Walmart on Fruitville Pike for 3 years.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Angelo enjoyed bowling and was a very good pool player, playing in the travel league, Columbia Pool League, for AmVets Post 153 in Columbia.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Donna Shapiro of Lancaster, and Michael Mattiace partner of Shawn Marie Jones of Burelson, TX; his 7 grandchildren: Amanda L. Carl, Christopher J. Carl, Gerald L. Carl husband of Maria Ortiz-Carl, Joshua Almodovar-Mattiace, Britney A. Mattiace, Logan M. Mattiace, Shaun Sadusky, and "grandson" Jamaine Murray, Sr; 12 great grandchildren; his sisters Rose Palazzolo of Wantagh, NY and Angela Bruton of Massapequa, NY, and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Pietro, Leonardo, Nicholo, and Vito.
A special thank you to his niece and nephew, Lisa and Paul, who took good care of Angelo, as well as thanks to the staff of Hospice & Community Care for their care and compassion.
Friends will be received by Angelo's family on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 from 6-9PM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 830PM. There will be a second viewing on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph St., Lancaster, PA from 10-11AM, with the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11AM. Interment in Conestoga Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in his memory to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
