IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Apornpan (Mum)
Dougherty
June 16, 2013
Mum Dougherty passed away surrounded by her loved ones in her home Sunday June 16 th . Mum was loved by many as the perfect mixture of a caring compassionate heart, fun-loving spirit and persistent toughness. Born in Thailand, February 10, 1966, she and her sister joined their mother in moving to the US when she was 8. They lived in a variety of places, finally settling down in Merkel, then Abilene, Texas. She came to Lancaster to go to college at Millersville, where she graduated in 1992. By profession, she was a social worker. In her work, she dedicated herself to those most in need. She worked with seniors and their families struggling with Alzheimer's, foster kids for COBYS, then helping people with mental disabilities have a more fulfilling life. She most recently completed her third year as part of a wonderful team of people at Manorcare. As a first generation immigrant to the US, she took nothing and no one for granted and worked hard for everything she had, and was happy to do so.
Food was one of her loves. She loved getting together with friends to drink daiquiris and eat crabs. She loved her mother's Thai cooking and super hot food. She put her heart into everything she did often showing her loved by baking wonders for others, like her carrot cake. All was right in the world when she would go to the beach, then her family would stuff themselves at the Bonfire restaurant.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, James J Dougherty III and the treasure of her life, her son Jimmy, and by her mother, Bunloo (Ann) Wilson and her beloved sister, Sirintorn (Sara), wife of Bill Andrews and mother of Mum's nephews Preston and Aaron.
The family would like to express our everlasting gratitude to loved ones who have been so gracious with their care for our family during these trying months. Our dear friends and coworkers at Fulton Bank and the wonderful people at Manorcare and St. Joseph's church have all showed us all the love and compassion that Christ demonstrated. We thank Dr. Kane and the other members of the Lancaster Cancer Center and Hospice and Community Care for their sensitive care for Mum in the worst of her moments. In lieu of flowers, please support a charity that helps those most in need.
There will be a Mass in celebration of her life at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph St., Lancaster, PA 17603 celebrated by Msgr. Thomas Smith on Thursday June 20 th at 6:30PM. The family will receive guests beginning at 5:00PM preceding the Mass at 6:30. There will be a party to celebrate her life in St. Joseph's Hall immediately following the Mass. She will be interred in a private ceremony the following day. To send an online condolence, please visit www.SnyderFuneralHome.com. Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory 717-872-5041
