IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anthony J.
“The Tone” Lombardo, Sr.
February 9, 2025
Anthony J. "The Tone" Lombardo Sr., 82, of Mount Joy, passed away peacefully at Penn State Lancaster Hospital on Sunday February 09, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Naples, Italy, he was the son of Pasquale Salvi and Giovanna Gavitone. The Tone and his mother immigrated to the United States in 1946 and settled in Lancaster. His mother met and married Nicholas Lombardo, who legally adopted Tony.
The Tone grew up in the Cabbage Hill neighborhood of Lancaster. He was a member of The Sons of Italy as part of the Italian American Citizens Club. He loved dancing and was a hit with the girls because of his dance skills. He graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School in 1960. Shortly after graduating, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was trained as an electronic cryptographic communications equipment specialist. He was honorably discharged in 1964. Tony then attended The Ohio State University studying engineering. The Tone returned to Lancaster, working at Hamilton Watch, RCA Lancaster, and KD Tools before working at St. Joseph's Hospital as the Director of Materials Management. He later worked for the Faulkner dealerships as a car salesman for over 20 years. He never believed he was a true salesman, but he had many repeat customers who returned to buy from him, making him a top earner. He was the most honest salesman which made him one of the best.
The Tone was married to Theresa Lombardo on November 14, 1970, for almost 49 years, until her passing in 2019. He and Terri were inseparable and made life fun for each other from dancing in the kitchen, playing games with family and neighbors, or taking many cruises and trips. He was a member of the Lancaster Italian Cultural Society playing in the bocce league with his cousins and loved driving his classic cars. He especially enjoyed the company of his little dog, "Baby", and his very caring neighbors. He loved watching Penn State football and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.The Tone was afraid of heights, but took to the skies in 1979 and tried skydiving. He "fell" for the sport and was an accomplished skydiver. He made over 2,500 jumps and served as an instructor and jumpmaster.
He is survived by his daughters Lisa Orriola (husband Vic), Christine Lombardo (husband Robert); son, Tony Jr.; brother Samuel Lombardo, (wife Dena); granddaughters, Madison and Kathryn; grandsons, Luke, Connor, and Bennett; and his five-year-old Shih Tzu, Baby.
The Tone loved supporting the family restaurant over the years and was well known by the staff at Lombardo's Restaurant for his affinity for the chicken parmesan and his special rum cake. Tony loved to dance and play oldies. He was a very proud father and grandfather, always bringing up one of his kids or grandchildren in various conversations with others.
Family and friends will be received from 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM with a service starting at 10:00 AM at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 on Tuesday February 18, 2025, and burial with military honors will follow at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
