Obituary

Dr. Anthony R. Patterson, Jr. died Sunday, May 24, 2015, in Lancaster, PA. He was 65 years old.

Tony was born August 15, 1949, at the Lancaster General Hospital. He was a 1967 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School, received his undergraduate and dental degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, in 1971 and 1976, respectfully. He completed his residency in fixed and removable prosthetics at the VA Hospital in Pittsburgh.

In 1981, he returned to Lancaster, where he practiced for many years. Early in his career, he worked with the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic and Southeast Lancaster Health Services. He was a pioneer both in the treatment of TM joint dysfunction/headache pain and dental implantology. Among his professional affiliations were active memberships in The American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Society, Lancaster County Dental Society and The American College of Prosthodontists. He was well known for his generosity and kindness, especially in his work with the clergy, the Amish and the less fortunate. He particularly enjoyed serving the elderly.

An avid dog lover, Tony raised Rottweilers on his farm in Conestoga. He was a member of the Lancaster Kennel Club, in which he held numerous positions. Most notably, he was an organizer of the Red Rose Dog Show and a dedicated fundraiser for the club. He taught canine obedience classes at the Red Rose Dog School. He held memberships in the Lancaster Irish American Cultural Society and the Mercedes Club of America. He was a former member of the Hamilton Club. Tony was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Simpson Patterson, his brother, Joseph Timothy Patterson, his sister, Marian Patterson Byrnes, his nephew, Thomas Patrick Byrnes, and his brother-in-law, Mark Edmund Burns. He is survived by his father, Anthony R. Patterson, Sr., of Willow Valley; brothers: Christopher M. Patterson (Melissa Roman) of Lancaster, Matthew P. Patterson (Sarah Breneman) of Lancaster, George B. Patterson (Nancy Seiler) of Sewickley, and sisters: Margaret Patterson of Longboat Key, FL, and Rosemary P. Costello (John M.) of West Chester. He was devoted to his three stepsons: Adam C. Kinney of Lancaster, Taylor J. Kinney of Chicago and Trent D. Kinney (Alexa) of Lancaster, and his ten nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA, on Saturday, May, 30, 2015, at 11 AM, with Rev. Michael Culkin as Celebrant. Tony's family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8 pm, at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, and on Saturday at the church from 10-11 AM. Interment in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Tony's memory to Lancaster Catholic High School, 650 Juliette Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601.
