Anne M. Martin, 99, of Lancaster passed away on March 25, 2018, just shy of her 100th birthday. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 12th, 1918, the daughter of Frank J. and Anna J. (Benner) Spiroch, and the wife of William E. Martin who died in February, 1989.
She was married on October 12th, 1940 and lived in Niagara Falls, NY before moving to Lancaster in the summer of 1942.
She and her husband were members of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.
Anne was a homemaker most of her life, with her main focus on her family. She enjoyed helping with her children's activities, however she also found time to volunteer in her church and other organizations. She and her husband enjoyed playing golf, gardening, and traveling. They visited 49 of the 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. They also took many trips to Europe, the British Isles, and to Asia and Australia.
For many years, she was a volunteer at St. Anne's Home in Columbia, PA. Later in life she continued her volunteer work at Oak Leaf Manor North Retirement Community. She continued her volunteer work there until the age of 96 when she stopped driving.
Anne is survived by her two sons, William E. Martin, Jr., husband of Glenna Martin, Wintergreen, VA, and Thomas R. Martin, husband of Carla Martin, York, PA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother, and by her daughter, Dr. Carol A. Martin, who passed away in June 2017. Both Carol and her husband, Dr. Lonnie Willis, were English Professors at Boise State University in Boise, ID.
Friends will be received on Friday, March 30, 2018 from 10-11AM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with the Christian Prayer Service to follow at 11AM. Interment will follow in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Anne's name may be sent to the Dominican Monastery, 1834 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601-6585, or to the St. John Neumann Educational Fund, 601 East Delp Road, Lancaster, PA 17601, or to the charity of choice.
