Anne P. Gerz, 78, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 14, 2026, surrounded by her daughters and husband. Born in Columbia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Helen (Hartman) Murry. Anne graduated Lancaster Catholic High School in 1966, and after a lengthy career in the insurance industry, retired from Eastern Alliance Insurance in 2015. She shared 37 years of loving marriage with her husband, Richard J. "Dick" Gerz, Jr.
Anne is best remembered for her love of life, energy, and contagious laugh. She loved spending time at the beach, especially Cape May, where she found peace and happiness. Anne enjoyed working in her garden, taking walks, and spending evenings on her patio listening to the birds and admiring the flowers in bloom. She loved the small things in life like her daily crossword puzzles and nightly gameshows.
Family was the center of Anne's life. She spent many happy days with her daughters at Long Wood Gardens, shopping, grabbing lunch, and any other activity that kept them together. The addition of grandchildren became Anne's greatest joy. She made sure her grandchildren knew there was no distance too far for Nanny to attend an athletic event and no ceremony too long for her to celebrate their numerous achievements. Anne's love for her grandchildren was truly unconditional. When she was not with her daughters or grandchildren, her two dogs Cody and Kobe were her constant companions. When in doubt, Anne could be found walking with Cody or Kobe around her neighborhood in Willow Street.
Anne was a devoted Catholic whose trust in the Lord sustained her throughout her life. She prayed daily for her loved ones and attended weekly mass at Saint Mary's and Saint Phillips. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now embraced by her Lord and Savior.
In addition to her husband, Dick, Anne is remembered by her daughters, Angela Post Speitel (Peter) and Julie Brommer (Jack); her stepdaughter, Kelly Wallace; her seven grandchildren, Noah, Brittany, Nicholas, Lauren, Colin, Luke, and Sophia; her two step-grandchildren, Riley and Karter; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her three siblings, Mary Lou Lawson, Holly Oatman, and Harold "Brumpy" Murry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry Street, Columbia, PA 17512. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions in Anne's name to Alzheimer's Association , alz.org.
