Obituary

Andrew N. Karpouzis, 88, of Lancaster died Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Lancaster General Hospital.  Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Domnitsa (Papademetriou) and Nicholas A. Karpouzis.  He was the husband of the late Georgia Koutsoutis Karpouzis who passed away on September 4, 1993.

Andrew was first employed at RCA, and then, he was co-owner at the Fulton Restaurant in Lancaster with his brother, Captain Gus, and his uncle. From 1958-1989, he was the owner of Speeds #2 Steak Shop on East King Street. After his retirement, he enjoyed helping his brother at Captain Gus' Steak Shop.

Andy was affectionately known as "The Rock," because of his body building and training as a youth. He was always an avid sports fan, and he especially loved the Philadelphia teams. Andy enjoyed spending time with his family and he loved his church, the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. He was a member of the Philoptochos and the Pan Coan Society.

Andy was a veteran of World War II and proudly served our country in the U.S. Army Air Force where he was stationed in Japan.

Andrew is survived by one son: Nicholas A. Karpouzis of Lancaster; one granddaughter: Zoe Karpouzis of Millersville.  He will be lovingly missed by two sisters: Barbara K. Valavanes, Nena K. Valavanes; and one brother: Captain Gus Karpouzis all of Lancaster.  He will be greatly missed by his one nephew: Nick G. Karpouzis, four nieces: Nancy Val Kambouroglos, Dore Photis, Andrea Phillips, Phyllis Rothweiler; and twelve grand-nephews and grand-nieces.  He is also survived by his four Godchildren: Eleni Geishauser, Daniel Karpouzis, Andrew Kusuplos, and Frances Nicholaou.

A special thank you must be given to Dr. Spencer Phillips for his devotion and care of Theo Andy.
