Almeda V. Korns, 87, passed away peacefully at her Gordonville, PA home on Monday, July 18, 2016. She was born in Cumberland, MD to the late Melvin Ellsworth and Lillian Irene (Holler) Shroyer. Almeda's husband John J. Korns died in 1993.
She graduated from Hyndman High School, Hyndman, PA and worked for Vallorbs Jewel Company in Bird-In-Hand from 1967 to 1974 and then for Star Dental in Greenfield Industrial Park, retiring in 1991. Almeda was an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church, where she served with the United Methodist Women, Sewing Circle and Luncheon Committee. She also belonged to Strasburg Senior Citizens.
Almeda was adventurous and independent. She loved camping, fishing and boating, with her husband Junior, on the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays and Indian River. They visited every state in the Continental United States. She loved needlework, sewing, playing Dominoes and board games, and in her later years playing Bingo at Paradise Fire Company. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Almeda is survived by her daughter Lesa Korns-Lefever, wife of Jeffrey S. Lefever of Strasburg, two grandchildren, Kelcy (Lefever) Waller, wife of Michael Waller of Lancaster and Brad Lefever and his fiancé Stephanie Dumler of Lititz; and three great-grandsons, Harrison, Emmett and Brooks Waller. Almeda was preceded in death by her daughter Beverly A. Korns, son John M. Korns, and siblings Charles Shroyer, Elsie V. Shaffer and Gerald Shroyer.
A celebration of Almeda's life will take place at 2 PM Saturday, July 30, 2016 at St. John's United Methodist Church, with Rev. Eugene Errickson officiating. Friends may greet Almeda's family immediately following the service. Private interment will take place at Porter Cemetery, Hyndman, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Almeda's memory to St. John's U.M. Church, 3001 Lincoln Hwy. East, Paradise, PA 17562.
