Obituary

Albert J. Schreder, DDS, 90, of Lancaster, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018, after suffering a stroke on Thanksgiving Day 2017. He was the son of the late John B. and Rosina Krallinger Schreder. He was married to Ave Marie Butz Schreder for 53 years until her passing September 8, 2008.

He grew up on Cabbage Hill in Lancaster, and graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School in 1945, the University of Notre Dame in 1949, and the Temple University School of Dentistry in 1953. Al had a private dental practice with his brother, and best friend, John, until he retired in 1993. He worked very hard all of his life to benefit others.

A lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, he was past president of the Holy Name Society and St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Al loved athletics, and played basketball and baseball for the IX Corps during his service in the Army from 1945-1946 in Sendai, Japan. After graduating from dental school, he served for the U.S. Public Health Service in Chicago, and during that time he played basketball with the U.S. Marine Corps.

An avid golfer, Al, was a 35-year member of the Lancaster Country Club. He was proud of his many golf accomplishments, including three holes in one, shooting his age numerous times, and his 1979 Lancaster County Senior Championship. Al also won the Senior Club Championship in 1984 and the Shaub Cup in 1986 at LCC.

He was especially passionate about the University of Notre Dame. Al was a proud member of the Notre Dame Club of Harrisburg and served as its president from 1995-1996, and started the Notre Dame Club of Harrisburg Scholarship Fund. He was also a University of Notre Dame Alumni Senator from1993-1996.

Al is survived by his brother, John, of Lancaster; his five children, Susan Petrak, wife of Dr. Russell of Chicago, Dr. Thomas Schreder, husband of Antionette Sabatine of Lancaster, Dr. Gregory Schreder, husband of Bonnie MacKenzie of Lancaster, Carole Pasquini, wife of Vincent of Hershey, and David Schreder of Lancaster; eight grandchildren, Allison Mullen, wife of Jay, Stephen, and Robert Petrak, MacKenzie, Amber, and Brett Schreder, and Vincent and Nicholas Pasquini; and two great-grandchildren, Kinley and Conor Mullen.
