Agnes C. Szwabowicz, 87, of St. Anne's Retirement Community, went to her final rest very peacefully on October 19, 2012 at Lancaster General Hospital, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Anthony J. Szwabowicz who passed in 1992. Agnes was born in Mahanoy City, PA to the late Jacob Bartnik and Anna (Chupko) Bartnik. She grew up in Frackville, PA then relocated and lived in the Leola area since 1955. Agnes was a homemaker and kept busy raising her two daughters and then later being a very proud grandmother to her five grandsons. Agnes was also an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and very much enjoyed a being a part of Church activities.
Surviving are two daughters, Christine Vlassis, married to Theodore Vlassis and mother of grandsons Tony and Stephen; Elizabeth Duschl, married to Robert Duschl and mother of three grandsons Kurt, Matthew and Ryan. Also surviving is a sister, Veronica Wrobel of Pottstown, PA.
Agnes was preceded in death by her first child Raymond Szwabowicz, who died soon after birth; two brothers, Andrew Bartnik, brother Peter J. Bartnik and two sisters, Helen Sadowski and Mary Zegestosky.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11AM on Friday, October 26, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 150 Water St., New Holland, PA with Rev. Michael J. Culkin as Celebrant. A viewing will be held from 7-9PM on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 8:30PM and viewing again from 10-11Am on Friday at the church. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Frackville, PA on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 2:30PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Anne's Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia, PA 17512 or to the church at the above address.
