A. William "Bill" Burkland, Jr., 92 of Lancaster passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2013 at Hospice & Community Care, Mt. Joy. Born June 30, 1921 in Lancaster he was the son of the late A. William Burkland, Sr. and Florence (Wolpert) Burkland. He was married 70 years to Miriam (Hoppler) Burkland.

In his early working years Bill and his brother Jim ran a home grocery delivery and produce business. Later he and his wife operated a grocery, sub and steak shop in Lancaster. In 1967 he went to work for the U.S. Post Office as a mail handler in the Lancaster main office until his retirement at age 75 in 1996.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lancaster.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Patricia, wife of Lawrence Keller, of Lancaster; 2 grandsons, Brant, husband of Isa (Squicciarini) Keller, of West Hartford, CT, and Peter, husband of Kathy (Fitzgerald) Keller, of Pittsburgh, PA and 4 great-grandchildren, Blake, Brody, Aidan, Morgan as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 step-brothers, Robert and James McEvoy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11AM on Friday, August 16, 2013 from Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 558 W. Walnut St, Lancaster, PA with Rev. Michael E. Messner as Celebrant. A viewing will be held at church one hour prior to the mass on Friday. Interment at St. Joseph's New Catholic Cemetery.
