Y Van Vu, 91, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at ManorCare in Lancaster. He was the husband of the late Kim Thai Vu who passed away in 2007.

Y Van Vu was born in Ha Noi, Vietnam and was the son of the late Nguyen Vu and Hoa (Nguyen) Vu.

He was a faithful and devout Catholic who attended St. John Neumann Catholic Church. He was the chairman of the Vietnamese Catholic Community in Lancaster in the 1970’s and in New Orleans in the 1980’s.

He enjoyed going to church, spending time with his family, gardening, orchids, movies, and recording music.

Y Van was the founder and the patriarch of the Pho Tau Bay Restaurants, a family restaurant chain that was started in Vietnam and later in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Y Van Vu is survived by his 6 loving children: Tam Quang Vu (Thanh Vu), Nga Buu (Paul Mitchell) both of Lancaster, Tuyet Takacs (Karl Takacs) of New Orleans, LA, Anh Thu Cao (Chau Cao) of Lancaster, Trung Vu (Anh Ho) of New Orleans, LA, and Oanh Lam (Thu Lam) of Houston, TX, 18 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, 2 siblings; Men Vu and Hoi Vu both of Vietnam.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church 929 N. Duke St. Lancaster, PA 17602 at 10AM on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Viewings will be held Friday evening at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory 3110 Lititz Pike from 6-10pm (8pm Prayer Service and Recitation of the Holy Rosary) and again a viewing on Saturday after Mass at Snyder’s from 12noon-1pm. Cremation will be in the Snyder Crematory Chapel following the second viewing.
