William L. Shaw, 11

William L. Shaw of School Lane Ave. in Brownstown passed away at the Essa Flory Hospice Center on Saturday, September 4, 2010 following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Carol Best Shaw. In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter Sue, wife of Gary Weisner of DuBois, a son William M. Shaw , husband of Kelly of DuBois, a son David Shaw of DuBois, a son Tim Shaw, husband of Linda of Hermitage, PA. , and a son Christopher, wife of Manda of DuBois. He also leaves behind a son Ryan Shaw at home, a step daughter Paulette Butler, wife of Kevin of Quarryville, a step-daughter Allison Maule of Akron, PA and a step-daughter Danielle Rynard of Erie PA. He is also survived by a sister, Maryalice Hartzfeld, husband of Howard of Erie, PA as well as 13 grandchildren and 3 greatgrandchildren.

Bill , a native of DuBois, PA, was in the trucking business all of his life, owning and operating Shaw Trucking in Brockway, PA until 1986 and then operating William Shaw Trucking, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the National Guard, deployed to Germany during the Korean War. He also served with the Civil Air Patrol as well as being a longtime and active member of the Volunteer Hose House #1 in DuBois.

Since moving to Lancaster County in 1996, he became involved with the West Earl and Rothsville Fire Companies, serving with the Fire Police at accidents, fires and community events.

Bill also enjoyed substituting as school crossing guard in Brownstown and getting to know the children in the neighborhood.

He was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 11 N. Church St. , Brownstown, where a memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2010.  A greeting time will be held at 2:00 pm followed by the service at 3:00.
