William H. Mann, Jr., 90

June 13, 2018

William H. Mann, Jr., 90, passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Arbor View at Willow Valley. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William and Elsie (Hughes) Mann.

Bill was the unofficial mayor of Willow Valley. He was widely known for his tireless volunteer work, which included work with the Sunshine Committee, Minutemen, bingo caller, Santa Clause, and service on various community–wide committees. A lifelong bridge player, he partnered with Bob Bruno to form a formidable duo. He remained sharp as a tack until his passing, reading voraciously, playing Sudoku and continuing to volunteer. He was a graduate of Lehigh University, BS, Chemical Engineering, and served as a Staff Sargent in the US Army Occupation Force, on General Douglas MacArthur’s Staff, in Tokyo, Japan. He was a lifelong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver award for his service.

Bill was married to Julia M. Mann, who passed in 2012, for 57 years. Their ashes will be interred together at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. He is survived by his sister, Elsie Smith, and by five children: William S. Mann, Thomas J. Mann, Dennis M. Mann, Kathleen M. McCormick and Gary J. Mann.

Services with Military Honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 11 AM. A memorial service will take place on Monday July 2, 2018 at 3 PM in the C. Jack Orr Auditorium of Willow Valley Manor North, 211 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA 17602.
