Werner Ortmann, RPh, 91

Werner “Ort” Ortmann, 91, formerly of Millersville, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at St. Anne’s Retirement Community.
He was the husband of Mary Clayre Boland Ortmann, with who celebrated 67 years of marriage this past October 14th. Born in Buer, Germany, Werner was the son of the late Ferdinand and Julianna Gerritzen Ortmann.

Werner was a career pharmacist operating as president of Ortmann Pharmacy in Columbia, PA from 1953-66. He retired as a vice president of Rea & Derrick Drugstores after 25 years of service in 1990. He was a founding member of the Lancaster County Pharmacists Association.

A US Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theater as a Staff Sgt. in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Reserve. He was a member of American Legion Post 34 of Lancaster and of St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Kristeen Ortmann of Loveland, CO, Paul J. married to Susan Ortmann of Landisville, Coleen married to Robert Kayden of Conestoga, Mary Ellen married to James Inman of Forest, VA, and Juliet Waltman of Lancaster; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lottie Colbert.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at the Chapel at St. Anne’s Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia, PA from 10:30AM-12Noon, with Mass to follow at 12Noon. Interment will take place in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Ort’s memory to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or to the St. Anne’s Retirement Community Benevolent Fund at the above address.

Mary Claire and family,   We were say to hear of the passing of Ort. We have so many fond Memories of our fun times spent with Ort and you. John love golfing with Him and John always appreciated the way Ort supported him.  We are very sorry we cannnot come to his funeral tomorrow because John is on Hospice for the last six months. He has stage four lung cancer and stage four colon cancer. I just got out of Hershey Penn state hospital a few hours ago. I was treated for cellulitis of the parotid gland. May the lord be with you at this difficult time. With much love, Marge and John Campbell.

Ort,
Thank you for supporting me to become a pharmacist.  You were my first district manager when Rea and Derrick opened in Lititz.  I was a 16 year old that knew nothing you, Ken Scott and Kevin Lambert guided me to what would become my career.  The one thing I will always remember is you standing at the side of the truck we unloading checking each box to make sure it was not to heavy for me to unload.  You were a kind and true gentleman.  Be at peace.
