Walter Diedrich, 87
Walter Diedrich, 87, of Lancaster, passed away on January 15, 2009, at his home. Born May 24, 1921, in Rochester, New York, he was the son of the late Otto and Elizabeth Lorey Diedrich. He is survived by his wife Edna Ackermann Diedrich, to whom he was married for sixty-one years.
Mr. Diedrich retired to the Lancaster area in 1984, prior to that he resided in Bergen County New Jersey. Mr. Diedrich served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Submarine Service in connection with Underwater Ordinance Special Weapons Project.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Diedrich is survived by a son, Peter Faranda-Diedrich; and a daughter, Judith Jenkins; two grandsons, and a great-grandson.
Memorial Services will take place in New Jersey at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Water Street Rescue Mission, 210 South Prince Street Lancaster, PA 17603, or to the Lancaster Shelter of Abused Women, P.O. Box 359 Lancaster, PA 17608, for whom Mr. Diedrich regularly donated wooden toys. Arrangements by the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Chapel.
