Virginia V. Hookway, 83

July 07, 2020

Virginia V. Hookway, 83, of Strasburg and formerly of Limerick, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy after a brief illness. She was born in Chester County to the late Dudley Glenn, Sr. and Anna Margaret (Shane) Bowen. Her husband of 57 years, Richard L. Hookway, Sr., preceded her in death.

Virginia worked as a bottle inspector for Diamond Glass Company in Royersford for 24 years and then worked at a child day care center in Limerick.

She was a former member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Limerick, and a lifetime member of the Limerick Historical Society. As a Strasburg resident, she belonged to Wesley United Methodist Church and Strasburg Senior Citizens Club.

Virginia cherished spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed bus trips, playing BINGO, and watching NASCAR races, as well as tending her flower gardens. Virginia also looked forward to luncheons with her Strasburg neighbors.

Surviving Virginia are her son Richard L. Hookway, Jr., husband of Agnes of Spring City; her daughter M. Darlene, wife of Ronald J. Fox, Jr. of Strasburg; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Dudley Glenn Bowen, Jr. (Darlene), Richard L. Bowen and Mary L. Holzer (Ron). In addition to her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her daughter Debbie M. Hookway-Steiner and three siblings, Shirley Bowen, Wayne Bowen and Thurman Bowen.

The family thanks the staff of Hospice & Community Care for the compassionate care they provided Virginia.

A graveside service will take place 10 AM Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Limerick Garden of Memories, 44 Swamp Pike, Limerick, PA 19468. Please omit flowers and kindly consider a memorial contribution to Hospice & Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4152.

Our hearts are saddened to hear of your loss. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Wishing you peace and comfort during this difficult time. Darlene and Ron–we were so happy that you were kind enough to bring Virgina to my mom’s surprise 90th birthday party. She was thrilled, excited, and honored to see you all. She continues to express how happy she was to see everyone and was very saddened by this news. My mother and our family send our most heartfelt condolences.

When you remember me,Please do not weep.My body may not be there. It has chosen to sleep.I’m not that far away.My soul lives on,Looking down, watching overYou and everyone. And when you feel sadAnd life seems so blue,Just rememberThat my spirit has its arms around you.And on those special days,Times that you wish I could see,That cool breeze flowing past you…Well, that will be me,So don’t be sad.Have no fear.God has taken me under his wing,But I’ll always be near.I still watch youEvery minute, every day.My love and soul are with you,And that’s where they will stay.Aunt Ginny was loved. My mom loved her dearly and always told me stories about them going to trip to Skyland drive when they were young. She was say how close they were because Ginny helped raise my mom. How she cried when Ginny left the family home to get married. They remained close these last few years, talking on the phone often and she would visit when she could. My mom loved her dearly. We wish we could have told her one last time that we loved her and goodbye. Rest now Ginny. We love you.

Mom, I am so glad that my GOD has taken away all your pain and suffering. May you rest in peace next to Dad and GOD. I wish I could have done more for you but I know I wasn’t welcome in your life because of all the brainwashing and lies that you were told. My faith tells me that you now know the truth about everything. To my sister and her Family I say sorry for your loss. I will also say that I forgive you all for all the mean and disrespectfull things that you have done to me and my family. I forgive you for stealing the right I had to say goodbye to my Mom. It is the same thing that you did with my Father. I never get told when someone is sick I am told when they pass. I hope you all have a happy life with any profits that you may recieve from this situation, but remember one thing: “What goes around comes around”. I will pray for your soul, my sister and hope someday you see the light. I have nothing to be upset about or reget in my life. I have a wonderful Wife and a wonderful Life and no one will be able to say otherwise. I am a forgiving person but I am not a forgetful person. To Snyder Funeral Home my family says thank you. To the Hospice Center my family also thanks you. To all who knew and loved my Mom say a prayer for her and you will make me happy. MAY GOD BLESS YOU MOM WITH LOVE FROM RICK AND AGNES.

I know this will be reviewed so I can only assume that the Fox family will see this. This is Caroline, Rick’s daughter. My son and I tried for about a year now to contact Mom Mom. We contacted every Fox from that area, to no avail. We have many fond memories of Mom Mom. I know you are in pain. I just have to say that I feel completely robbed of an opportunity to see her one last time. Why wasn’t my family notified? I know there have been issues in the past. I just don’t feel like this is fair. Every one should have had the chance to say goodbye, just like your family.
