Vernon K. Steely Jr., 80
July 25, 2019
Vernon K. “Bosh” Steely, Jr., 80, of Lititz, formerly of Mt. Airy, passed away at Hospice & Community Care, Mt. Joy, on Thursday, July 25, 2019. Born in Ephrata, Bosh was the son of the late Bosh and Ida P. (Kopp) Steely. He was the loving husband of R. Darlene (Weachter) Steely, with whom he celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Bosh proudly served in the US Marines. He worked for Ephrata Tool for 40 years as a machinist. Bosh attended Ephrata Bible Fellowship for many years. A true outdoorsman, he loved spending time in the mountains of Lycoming County, at their cabin where he enjoyed hunting and watching wildlife. He had the privilege of watching an albino fawn grow to a six-point buck, watching a mother bear and her four cubs frolicking in the meadow, and seeing another mother bear with her two black cubs and one cinnamon cub. Bosh also cared for hummingbirds at his cabin, tending to feeders in both the front and back yard.
In addition to his wife, Bosh is survived by his daughter, Connie Gehman, companion of Mike, of Adamstown; his grandson, Justin Gehman, of Pottsville; and his brother Cliff Steely, of Akron. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Eric Matthew.
Services for Bosh will be private, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice & Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.

I grew up with Bosh in Brunnerville. My deepest sympathy to Darlene, whom I also knew from when we were very young, and to the rest of his family.

My sincere condolences to the entire Steely family on the loss of Vernon!
Although we haven’t been in touch since our respective retirements, Vernon and I had worked together at Ephrata Tool for many years, and always enjoyed each other’s company! I remember him as a very diligent worker, and an important contributor to the success of the company!
On a lighter note, we both shared a fondness of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup candy, and after the candy counter was restocked each week, Vernon and I would often have a contest to see who could eat the most Peanut Butter Cups. It usually ended in a tie after we both ate too much!
Although I only consume an occasional cup these days,….when I do, I always think of Vern,…. and will continue to remember him with fondness for the remainder of my days!
God bless, Neil Hall
