Susan Potts Wise, 66

January 08, 2018

Susan Potts Wise, 66, of Wheatland Ave, Lancaster, passed away on Monday January 8, 2018 surround by her loving family at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Reva Smith Potts.
Susan was retired from the School District of Lancaster after many years of employment. Susan grew up on Cabbage Hill on High Street for most of her childhood. She attended J.P McCaskey and was a 1969 graduate of Hempfield High School.
Her Christian faith was of great importance to her. Through God’s grace she survived Ewing Sarcoma for 24 years. She was an active member of The Lord’s House of Prayer of Lancaster.
Susan loved life and was a charismatic person, up for any adventure, always had a youthful spirit about her. She possessed a great sense of humor, and a sharp sense of fashion. She loved to dance, and could teach the dance steps that went along with any 1960’s Motown song. She loved to go antiquing and was a lover of history with a particular interest in George Washington.
Susan is survived by her children: Melinda married to Bernard Houston of Lancaster and Gregory Wise of Lancaster; her grandchildren Jackson and Grant Houston, and Mitchell, Delaney, Evan, Maverick, and Vera Wise; and by her brother David Potts of East Petersburg.
Private family memorial will take place at her home when the sun is shining and her favorite lilac bushes are in full bloom. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Susan’s memory to New Life for Girls, 5925 Lewisberry Rd., Dover, PA 17315.

Condolences to the Family

I am so sorry to hear about Susan’s death.  Although we did not talk to one another often, she was a cousin and interested in our family genealogy.  Since our last conversation, Steven Smith and I made a trip to North Carolina to research the early years of our family.  I would be happy to share the new information with you and your brother.  Steven and I are in the Jamestowne Society on this line.  Our Smith family, that of your grandmother, is such an awesome collection that reaches back to the shores of Virginia and Massachusettes and into Holland and England.  Please let me know if I can do anything to help in this time of sorrow.  I last visited with your mom about a year ago and had tried to contact her several times since then.  Your cousin, Azalia Smith Moore, Azalialee@aol.com

oh my this is very sad to me. Susan was childhood friend and neighbor. I can still see the yellow swing set we played on. My family moved in the house behind where susan lived. She asked me to come over and swing. She was a very  giving person. We went to a vacation Bible school together. We were maybe 10 but took it to heart. we discussed for many weeks after. Many years passed and I was invited to bible study. This joyful girl asked if I knew who she was. It was Susan and we were so glad to see each other. God Bless Jeff Rittenhouse

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time. We have known Susie for many years.  She was a good friend of my sister Deb Fisher. I do remember what a great dancer she was. She always had interesting stories to tell and I will always remember how we spoke on the phone occasionally about days gone by.  Please accept our condolences. Sincerely June Fisher( Deb’s mom) and Sue Fisher Fontaine.

Words can’t express how sad I feel. No more phone calls…my phone would ring and Sue would say “hi my friend”. She suffered so much with her cancer but never ever complained.  Always more concerned about me.  I’m sorry for you, her family, but boy is she happy to see Jesus!!  She was one of a kind and I will miss her terribly.
