So sorry to hear of Mrs. Fry’s passing.  I was also a student of Mrs. Fry in the early 80’s at Sporting Hill.  She was a kind, compassionate and wonderful teacher.  I still remember some of the stories that she told and am a better person because I had her as a teacher.

Dear Nancy and Chip – I was so very grieved to see your darling mother’s picture in the Obit section of the Lititz Record this week.  Oh my she was a wonderful person, you are so blessed to have had her as your Mom.  Sue and I met at the pool, (at the Lititz Rec Center back in 93) we both were a part of three “Lane Maidens”, who changed the swimming ropes, with Verna Mossiman and Lucy De Perrot.  Sue was a great support to me as I went through my undergrad at Millersville in art education and then onto my early years of teaching art at Kraybill Mennonite School, which I retired from 3 years ago.  I was there 18years.  We often went to breakfast and had long chats about our families.  She was always a great listener, and loved you both and your children so very deeply.  She was so very proud of you both and of each of your children.  I saw Sue last after she’d had a stroke, but she was still doing so very well and still had that sparkle.  Your Mom was so very intelligent and her love of God and service through her church will always be her legacy.  It’s funny in the middle of this crisis, I was just remembering Sue, Lucy and Verna, and thinking I need to send them all an e-mail and check on them, and here we are.  She was a gift to many, including myself and she will be missed.  I know she’s in heaven but I also know the journey of grief that you all will travel through in the coming months and years.  Please send my love to all your children Nancy – they are an amazing group of now adults.  With deepest sympathy for your loss, Love, Wendy Weinstein – I was priveledged to know your dear Mom.

Mrs.Fry was a big orioles fan that i remember. The 1983 world series was the phillies vs the orioles and while my team being the phillies didn’t win Mrs.Fry was compassionate and didn’t rub it in,this was the kind of person she was.I was glad to know her and look back on those days whenever i go through tough times in life.

I remember Mrs. Fry fondly from my 6th grade year at Sporting Hill Elementary.  1982 was a difficult year for me as my parents had recently separated, and Mrs. Fry helped me greatly.  I remember her as strict, fair, understanding, and above all compassionate.   The mark of a good teacher is that they stay with you throughout your life, and Mrs. Fry did that.  I am happy to see that she lived a long, full life.

I had the great good fortune to walk part of the pathway of my life in the company of Sue Fry as both friend and colleague.  Sue epitomized the virtues of kindness, caring, commitment and love which she so effectively shared with all whom she came in contact with, from her students and their parents to her colleagues.  She left everyone she met with a positive feeling!  Sue was one of the nicest people one could ever meet and if you were fortunate to have crossed paths with her your life is forever enriched for the experience!

I worked with Sue at Manhem Central – what a positive person!  My wife also knew Sue from volunteering at Wheatland.  We’re very happy to see so many of her students expressing their appreciation of Sue’s teaching skills and enthusiasm.  Her “family”was so much larger than those listed in the obituary.

My name is Tammy Sweeney, formally Tammy Roberts, and I was a 6th grade student of Mrs Fry at Sporting Hill in ~1987. Upon hearing of her death I posted the following on Facebook and wanted to share it here so the family could share in my love for her. Here is my tribute to the woman who truly changed the trajectory of my life. Thank you for considering posting it here as well.
From my post:
Manheim Central, Sporting Hill people… Mrs. Fry passed away this Wednesday. So very sad they won’t be able to have a service. I would have loved to tell her family how much she impacted my life 💔

Mrs Fry is the teacher who saw brilliance in me when no one else bothered to look… she is the ENTIRE reason I was placed in accelerated classes in middle school and high school… she is the reason I took honors programming in college, graduated summa cum laude, went to graduate school, was awarded full tuition plus stipend for doctoral work… she is the reason I believed in myself and applied myself every day of my life… she is the reason I am the teacher I am today.

I hope from heaven she can read my words… I am who I am because of you. I aspire to be like you every day I enter my classroom and interact with my kids. I see brilliance in them because of you and I pray they see it too and aspire to greatness. I love you and want you to know that, although the absence of your loss is deep, the impact of your life on those you leave behind is profound. Thank you for being my teacher- thank you for being THAT teacher ❤️

Mrs. Fry was one of my favorite teachers. She will be missed. She told us a story of having good luck each month if you said “Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit” as your first words. Even after all these years, I think about that as the months change.

We are so sorry to hear of the loss of such a lovely woman. Sue was an enthusiastic volunteer at St. Paul, always willing to help out with a big smile and fantastic attitude.  We had so much fun with Sue and Jenny Bitzer at Stephen Ministry training and she was a faithful trainer and carer.  She told many stories about her family and was so proud of each of you.  She will be missed, but also fondly remembered.
