Sue A. Shelley, Ph.D., 68
Sue A. Shelley, Ph.D, 68, of Lititz, died Monday, November 5, 2007 at Lancaster General Hospital after a short illness.
She was the wife of William E. Shelley, JD, with whom she celebrated 46 years of marriage this past February 12th. Born in Moweaqua, IL, Sue was the daughter of the late Karl and Madolyn Dove Eckhardt.
An associate professor at the University of South Florida- College of Medicine, she had taught and conducted research in pathology at the college from 1978, until her retirement in 2002. Prior to USF, Sue had been associated with the University of Illinois, the University of Chicago, and the Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL. Numerous national organizations benefited from her years of research.
Following her retirement, while residing in Lititz, she was an active volunteer at the Lititz Public Library, where she assisted in the organization of the library’s semi-annual book sale.
Sue was a graduate of James Millikan University in Decatur, IL, earned her Masters from Northwestern University, and her Ph.D from Loyola University in Maywood.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mary K. Shelley, wife of Ralph Dubayah of Riverdale, MD, a grandson Wyatt, and a brother, James Eckhardt of Dallas, TX.
Friends are invited to attend the memorial service celebrating Sue’s life on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Following the services, Sue’s family will receive friends at the Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Rd., Lititz, PA 17543. Please omit flowers, making contributions in her memory to the Lititz Public Library.
