Stephen P. Morris, 64

May 14, 2017

Stephen P. Morris, 64, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017 in Lititz.
He was the husband of Valerie Shober Morris, with whom he would have shared 15 years of marriage this coming September 10th. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Gerald A. and Mary Jane Moore Morris.
A pastor, Stephen had earned a Bachelors Degree in Theology from the International Seminary. A missionary since 1979, he had served as the director of Palabra Viviente of the Living Word Training Center since 1984, serving in Honduras and Central America. Stephen had also been the director of the Transitional Community Center and the Transitional Living Center through Tabor Services. With his spreading the Gospel, he lived in Honduras for 10 years, served in missions with his wife Valerie for 12 years, and traveled to African countries such as Nigerian, Swaziland and South Africa to minister to the people. He also brought his message to the unreached Garifuna people near the coast of Honduras, Belize and Guatemala, entering a village with just his Bible and his guitar, and helping to found a new church there and serving as director there for 25 years. He was a member of Gateway Church International of York.
Of all the places he had been and things he had done, his greatest treasure in his life was his family; he loved them dearly, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Valerie, he is survived by his children: Stephen P. II married to Eladia of Silt, CO, and Christine L. married to Joseph Smolar of Lititz; his 3 stepchildren: Sherry married to Vincent Lee of Lititz, Troy married to Tanya Rolinski of Lititz, and Jesse married to Cassandra Shober of Macclenny, FL; his 13 grandchildren, and his siblings: Jere, John, and David Morris and Vicki Ulrich.
Friends will be received on Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 6:30-7:30PM at Gateway Church, 50 Blunston Lane, York, PA 17406, with the service to celebrate Stephen’s life to follow at 7:30PM. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in his memory to Gateway Church International to benefit his Palabra Viviente Mission Fund at the above church address.

It was my pleasure to know Steve many years ago, but I lost touch over the years. I do not subscrive to the daily paper, but they deliver a free copy some Wednesdays. I was very surprised to learn of Steve’s homegoing. I extend my sympathies to his family.
What a great life of service, he had. I did not know of half of it. I am sure he has left a good heritage. My prayers are with you at this time of seperation, but I pray it will only be a temporary one and that one day you will be with him for all eternity.
Love, Paul H. Buckwalter
