Shawn D. Keller, 22

Shawn D. Keller, 22, of 18 Highland Ct., Reinholds, passed away on Friday at Lancaster General Hospital. As Shawn was an outgoing and true “people person”, he is now helping others through his gifts of being an organ donor.

Born in Lancaster, Shawn is the son of Wanda S. Shaeffer Bomberger of Reinholds and Michael H. Keller of Lancaster. He is the step son of Robert M. Bomberger. He is the fiancée of Renee Spangler of Lancaster and attending St. Joseph’ s University in Philadelphia, together since their sophomore year in high school.

Shawn had been serving his apprenticeship and studying for his certification in HVAC and plumbing, working for Frey Mechanical in Mount Joy; working in this field and for Frey’s was a job that he truly enjoyed. During summer breaks from college in recent years, he had worked for Tait Towers in Lititz.

In his younger years, he played soccer, midget football and baseball. A 2003 graduate of Manheim Twp. High School, Shawn played freshman football, and became a very accomplished baseball player, serving as captain of the team his senior year. He also played Legion baseball, where he was voted to the All Star Team and was named the 2004 Legion Outstanding Outfielder. After graduation, he enrolled at Burlington County Community College in New Jersey, where he played left field for the college, and studied graphic design.

An all-around sports fan, he enjoyed following the Flyers, the Dallas Cowboys, the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, Notre Dame football, and the University of Kansas basketball team.

Shawn was known for always having a constant smile and a great sense of humor. His family and friends were of great importance to him, and he was never by himself, always enjoying the company of family, teammates and friends.

In addition to his parents, step father and fiancée, Shawn is survived by his brother, Justin M. Keller of Reinholds, his stepbrother Blake R. Bomberger and stepsister Gretchen M. Bomberger, both of Reinholds. Also surviving are his maternal grandmother, Doris J. Shaeffer and  maternal great grandmother Helen A. Firestone, both of Lancaster;  his paternal grandfather Earnest J. Keller Sr. of Bradenton FL ; his step grandfather Fred D. Fluke of Lancaster and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Lynwood W. Shaeffer and his paternal grandmother E. Joyce Fluke.

Friends will be received on Tuesday at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Rd., Lancaster, PA from 6-9PM. Funeral services will be at St. Peter’s on Wednesday at 11AM with the Rev Craig Ross and Rev Glenn Rader co-officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. His family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Shawn Keller Scholarship, c/o Manheim Twp. High School, Box 5134, School Rd., Lancaster, PA 17606 ATTN Manheim Twp. Dugout Club, to benefit future players.

I Do Believe

by Jennifer Janiszewski

There is nothing i can do,

to make him come back

There are no words I can say,

that can replace he words you long to hear

There are no answer’s I can give,

that will satisfy your questions

There is not another soul I can introduce you to that will ever replace his And, there is no love I can offer that will ever replace the love you shared

I can not promise your broken heart will ever be complete I will not say it could have been worse I will not deny it was a tragedy I will not lie and tell you he will come back

He never really left

I do promise he hears you when you speak I will say he loves you no matter the distance I will not deny he is in a better place And, I will not lie; he is waiting to greet you someday

He is every you step you take

He is in everything you do

He is the air you breathe

He is every beat of your heart

" He is like the wind. You can not see him…but you will always feel him"

Mike –

please accept our deepest sympathy. Our thoughts & prayers are with you & Justin.

Don and I were so sorry to hear about Shawn. I’m sorry I never got to know him but just by reading his obituary it was obvious he led a full and productive life. Something you can always be proud of. Just hang on to all the great memories and know that this life is only temporary and one day we will have a great reunion in a better place.

I wish I was closer and could spend some time with you right now but just know our prayers are with you and your family during this time.
