He especially enjoyed furniture restoration, employing many of the skills and crafts he learned from his father who had owned a furniture store in Lancaster City in the 1920’s. In his youth, Sears was an avid swimmer and golfer and sang in the St. James Episcopal Church Choir.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Claire Maher Sickler, and four children; a son, William J. Sickler, husband of Tracee Sickler of Leola, PA and three daughters, Helen A. Sickler, Lancaster, Eileen C. Sickler, partner of Sarah Willard of Burlington, MA, and Mary T. (Sickler) Low, wife of Richard C. Low of Lancaster. Sears is also survived by three grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Dear Mrs. Sickler, Mary and all the family,
My parents passed along the news about your husband, father, grandfather. I was sorry to hear it. I remember visiting many times with you, Mary, on N Pine St and remember how loving you were Mrs Sickler, and how you and Mr. Sickler were always smiling and welcoming. The photo of Mr Sickler is exactly as I remember him. I’m sorry that we have lost touch over the years. Please accept my condolences.
Your friend,
Tina Schaller Burroughs
Dear Claire & Family,
We were so sorry to read about Sears passing in today’s newspaper. We have fond memories of living on Nevin Street between the Sicklers and Mrs. Carr and of working with Sears at Armstrong. We couldn’t have asked for better neighbors and good friends.
Our prayers are with you and your family.
Love,
Janet & Bill Wimer
