Scott M. Frailey, 40

Scott Michael Frailey, 40, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Hospice of Lancaster County Essa Flory Center after a courageous battle with melanoma. Born in Lancaster on February 3, 1972, he was the son of Henry E. Frailey, of Lancaster, and the late Mary Anne (Gohr) Frailey who passed away in 1992.  Scott is survived by his dear and loving wife, Jennifer (Healey) Frailey, whom he referred to as “my Jenny”.  They were married on June 15, 1996 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, which is home to Scott’s beloved alma mater Wake Forest University.

Scott’s education began at Buchanan Elementary School, where he met many of his lifelong friends. As a boy, Scott was a proud member of Boy Scout Troop 99.  Many of his fondest memories were of the numerous excursions with the troop.  He was a 1990 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School, and a 1994 cum laude graduate of Wake Forest.  While there, he was a dedicated member of the Screamin’ Demons, the student fan club of the basketball team.  He continued to follow and support Wake Forest throughout his life.

He was the Lancaster franchise owner and operator of the family business, Midas Automotive on Columbia Avenue and Lincoln Highway East.  With Midas, he achieved the honor of owning two AAA approved facilities.  He was a member of the Midas Owners Association, BNI Lancaster Chapter Two, and of Lancaster Country Club.  He was a member and grew up attending Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.  He kept that tradition with his wife and children.

He enjoyed playing golf, traveling, spending time with his family and friends, and relaxing on the beaches of Seabrook Island, South Carolina. He was a weekly reader of The New Yorker and The Economist.  He loved politics and was always interested in discussing international business and relations. He was a craft beer enthusiast and took great pride in maintaining his 1986 classic BMW 535i .

Scott was a loving husband and father, a dedicated son, and a loyal friend.   He will be remembered for many outstanding qualities, but above all, his kind and gentle spirit.

In addition to his wife Jenny, he is survived by their two sons at home, Tate M. and Pierce M. Frailey. He is also survived by his father Henry Frailey and his in-laws, Deborah M. and Chris S. Healey, of Lancaster.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Celebrate Scott’s Life with a Memorial Service at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church 31 S. Duke St. Lancaster, PA 17602 on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 2pm with The Rev. Timothy Mentzer officiating. Interment will be private in the Holy Trinity Memorial Garden. Friends are invited to gather and pay their respects to the family at the Lancaster Country Club 1466 New Holland Pike Lancaster, PA 17601 on Friday from 4-6PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Scott’s memory to the Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) P.O. Box 759329, Baltimore, MD  21275-9329, or online at www.melanoma.org. The Staff of West Lancaster Animal Hospital

Jenny, Tate, Pierce:  Our prayers are with you.  We certainly could have used many more years of Scott with us, so the sadness is deep.  We hope that God’s love will surround you in these days as we remember a really special person: so engaged with life; so interested in the world around him; so faithful to family, friends and customers; such a gentle and courageous spirit. We join our prayers with many others that the angels will attend you in these days.

Pastor Dan Long and family

We didn’t know Scott very well, but in all the years we took our cars to Midas I’ll never forget how kind he was.  It wasn’t just about business.  He talked to us like we were his friends.  I always thought to myself, "what a great guy."  I was so sad when I read that he had passed away.  I am so sorry.

Dear Mrs. Frailey,
I only read Wednesday’s paper this evening and was stunned to see your husband’s obituary. Scott was in my sixth grade class at Buchanan in the late 80s. I remember him as a tall boy, quiet and serious, very gentle. That he became a successful business man is no surprise. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for your loss. Having lost my own husband just 14 months ago I can understand what you are going through, although not really, I know. There is a sense in which each person’s loss is unique; however, it is something of a comfort to know you are not alone in your grief. I will pray for you, Tate and Pierce that you may feel God’s comfort,
Sincerely,
Laura Shaida

I had gotten to know Scott after purchasing my Midas in 2008. He was a wealth of information and support. His positive outlook was contagious. He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Heaven gained an Angel. We lost one. Scott, or Scotty, as I always referred to him during my business visits to both Midas locations is/was THE nicest man I ever met in my entire life! And after 37 years in sales, and 59 years here in Lancaster, PA, I have met thousands of people, but NO ONE like Scott Michael Frailey. Bar none, Scott was an Angel that we here on earth had the Privilege to associate with. It is my Honor to have known Scott.
Think about this people. When in your entire life have you ever met a person that you honestly in your heart, mind and soul could never say a bad word about that person. Trust me, it existed in Scotty.
I cannot say enough good things about Scott. Simply put…Angel Scott is now helping people in Heaven with that sincere kind spirit-heavenly spirit of his.
My sincere condolences to the Frailey and Healey families. With Love, respect and total admiration to have known Angel Scott Michael Frailey.

Dear Mrs Frailey; I am saddened to know Scott is not with us any longer, he was a special young man. Please accept my condolences, know many thoughts and prayers will be with you and your children. I first met Scott when he joined our Boy Scout Troop 99 and worked with him as he advanced, very quite but so strong and one could say a gentle giant. I was so pleased to meet Scott, again at his Midas shop and pleased he was so successful. We talked several times sitting on the bench outside the office, and compared experiences in our fight with Cancer. Early in my fight I also went to John’s Hopkins for some treatments and appointments. My prayer’s will be with you and your children. Charles Blanken, assistant Scoutmaster Troop 99, (years ago).

Jenny, Tate and Pierce

Oak Lane residents, your family’s friends, will always have fond memories of Scott, his warm smile, gentle spirit and love for his family.  How can we ever forget Scott’s humility, much like his father Henry’s: classic BMW driven only on rare occasions while daily commuting to Midas and driving around Lancaster was done in a variety of a worn looking pickup trucks, old station wagons, and more recently a soccer mom minivan.

Scott loved Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. My wife Judy told me often that she can still see Scott and his mom in Trinity’s balcony while growing up and Judy Kitsock would report weekly sightings of Scott, Tate at Pierce at Trinity.

The three of you will always remain in our prayers.

Roger and Judy Sandt

Scott did not know us personally, other than as customers of Midas, but we were shocked and saddened to read of his passing today.  We had last seen him in January when picking up one of our cars, and had no idea he was fighting this illness.  It was always a pleasure to communicate with him; he was unfailingly polite, thorough, and honest.  Our deepest sympathies are with his family, friends, and associates.

Rick and Debbie Neiss

My thoughts & prayers are with you and your family during this very difficult time…I’m truly sorry for your loss, Scott & I went to McCaskey together. Again I’m so sorry for your loss.

Jenny, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and the boys during this difficult time.  Scott will be missed by many.

John Stallings

I was extremely saddened to hear of Scott’s passing. I had the very good fortune to meet and and begin working with Scott several years ago. That relationship was much more than professional to me. Scott was a great supporter of my work and we developed a true friendship that I will remember and cherish forever. Scott was one of the most sincere people I have ever met and I know that he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. I will gladly make a contribution to the Melanoma Research Foundation in his memory.

Dear Jennifer and family,
My name is Carla Hart-Hertzler, and I worked at Midas from 2000 to 2004 as the office clerk, and that is how I came to know both Scott.  I remember Scott as a kindred spirit, and appreciated his gentleness towards seemingly stressful situations.  I am blessed to have known him, and to have been one of his employees.
God bless you, and may His arms be wrapped around you during this difficult time.  May your sons also feel the Lord’s presence as they mourn the loss of their Daddy.

To Scott’s Jenny and Family,

My prayers are with you and your family.  I have known Scott since kindergarten and he has always been a wonderful person.  I remember in 1st grade during art class a man came to talk to us about Grounghog Day.  My bday is Feb. 1 and with Scott’s being Feb. 3 we both were given groundhog day sweatshirts.  It was a groundhog eating a carrot.  A few years ago we talked about that fond memory.  He is the best of the best.

Deepest Sympathy,  Eric Hines

My sincere condolences to all of the Frailey family. May God continue to bless you and keep you in his comfort and joy.
