Sanford A. Wilson, 86

Sanford A. Wilson, 86, of Lancaster, PA and Naples, FL, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the son of Benjamin A. and Esther (Dunie) Wilson. He was born in Lancaster on February 13, 1923.

He was the husband of Elva Boyd (Lowry) Wilson. They celebrated forty one years together.  They spent the last five years together at Willow Valley Lakes.

Sanford was proud to be in the first graduating class of J.P. McCaskey High School of 1940. He attended Franklin and Marshall College and graduated from Temple University.

He served his country in WWII in the United States Army and was stationed in Persian Gulf.

Sanford was of the Jewish faith.

Sanford was owner and operator of his family’s scrapyard business, S. Dunie Sons. He closed and sold his business in the 1970’s and started a second career in commercial real estate. He was a partner with Hetrick, Puffer, and Wilson firm. Some of his real estate accomplishments included owning the Griest Building and at that time it was known as the Lancaster Federal Savings Building. He found the original plaque of the building and decided to rename the building to its original, now known as the Griest Building. He also was the developer of the Concord Place Town Houses.

His memberships include Lancaster Elks Club Lodge #134, Philadelphia Masonic Lodge #703 of the F&AM, Rajah Shrine Club of Reading, Lancaster Kiwanis Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Past President of Wheatland Sertoma Club, Past Board member of Lancaster County Heart Association, Past Board member of Harb-Adult, Lancaster Pirates, former member of Lancaster Country Club, Hamilton Club, and Media Heights Golf Club.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Benjamin A. “Skip” Wilson, II of Lancaster, a grandson, Adam P. Wilson, of Lancaster, sister, Hortense W. Rogers, Osprey, FL, step-children, Laralee Bash, wife of William F., of Lancaster, and Norris D. Boyd, husband of Barbara, of Spokane, WA. He was preceded in death by a step-son Lawrence D. Boyd.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Service from the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Chapel 3110 Lititz Pk. Lititz, PA on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at 11am with Rabbi Shaya Sackett officiating. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home from 10-11am. Interment will take place from Degel Israel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sanford’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association (Lancaster Chapter) 610 Community Way Lancaster, PA 17603.
