Reid and Whit (and the rest of the family), I only met Ruth a few times, but from knowing you both and our conversations over the years, I can tell what special woman she was. Reid, you were blessed to share her life for 41 years but I am sure it seems not long enough. And Whit, she gave you and your sisters what seems to be the best guidance and love, now extending to her grandchildren. I am truly sorry she left you all so young. you have my deepest sympathy.

Dear Reid and family,  My name is Elaine Good and in the 1980s Ruth and I were friends working together in Lititz La Leche League. She was a great hostess for many events related to that group and we also were both farmer’s wives living in old farmhouses. I loved her and share in your grief. Please accept my condolences.

Reid, I heard from my partner at work that Ruth was ill.  We will miss seeing her walking in the neighborhood, and stopping to say hi when I would see her and you out. My memory of her goes back before you were a couple and Youth For Christ.  Always warm and smiling.  I watched the video to get a sense of family.  Beautiful.  And this is such a strange time with the virus and social distancing, otherwise we would be at a service to say our condolences in person and give hugs.  Consider this a heartfelt hug to you and your family.

This is such a shock to me. Although we hadn’t been in touch since I moved out of state I did find myself think ing about Ruth on many occasions – in fact just in this past week I had thought of her and how we had shared clothes and sleepovers. We were neighbors and more than that, we were best friends for so many years through school. I last saw her at a class reunion. She was so happy and looked so full of life – happily married and happy to be a mom and happy to being living a farm life. And I was so happy for her. It was what she had always wanted. I know she will be missed by family and friends and even those of us who were so far away, but still have wonderful memories of times shared together. Taken too soon, but gave so much in the time she had here. Peace.
