Ronald W. Schmitter, 85

Ronald W. Schmitter, 85, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at his residence. Born in New York City, NY, he eventually settled in Lancaster to raise his family. Ron’s career was in food service, serving as Executive Chef at Lancaster General Hospital for 27 years.

He was known for his great sense of humor, love of life, and willingness to help others. He was a passionate traveler, having made several cross-county and international trips. He especially enjoyed vacationing with his friends and family at the beach and taking bus trips. He volunteered as a driver for the American Cancer Society for nearly a decade where he was recognized for his years of outstanding service. He was active in the community serving on several Boards, including the Office of Aging and AARP.

Ron is survived by his four children: Maureen married to Dennis Edgecombe, Michelle Schmitter, Robert L. married to Marsha Schmitter, Julie married to Geoff Curtis and three grandchildren Declan Edgecombe, and Emma and Charlie Curtis, and his companion of 30 years, Pearl Cuthie of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ron’s Memorial Service on Friday, March 29, 2019 at 10AM at Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd, 750 Greenfield Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601. Visitation will begin at 9AM. Interment will follow in the church Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Ron’s memory to Lancaster County Office of Aging 150 N. Queen St., Lancaster, PA.

So sorry to hear about Ron’s passing. Uncle Ron will be missed. I will always remember his unique sense of humor and the fun he had with Mom cooking at St Leo’s! Our prayers and thoughts are with you all.

We will miss you, you always made us laugh. Traveling with you and Pearl was always something we looked foward to.  We will cherish all the memories, you will always remain in our hearts.
